Mr & Mrs Goodwin

Mr & Mrs Goodwin are proud parents of a baby girl, Molly who was born on 5th

February weighing 7lb 14oz.

We send them all our best wishes and love. No doubt she will visit school in the very

near future to introduce Molly to the children and staff.

These cards are not allowed in school, as too many arguments are caused. Please will

you remind children that they should not bring them, especially the boys in Years 3

and 4.

your sales the school had benefited from £102.93 worth of ‘free’ books. We have

All Saints School News

This will be my last piece for the parish magazine as Head teacher of All Saints School, Leigh. I have learned a lot since I have had the privilege of working here. It is a very complex job and has many facets that you are not always prepared for and have to respond to in a positive way if possible.

It is certainly challenging on all fronts and as someone wisely said to me, “It is a small school, but not a small job!”

I have on my desk a small, credit card sized piece of wisdom that I will share with you:

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn

If children live with hostility, they learn to fight

If children live with ridicule, they learn to be shy

If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty

If children live with tolerance, they learn to be patient

If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence

If children live with praise, they learn to appreciate

If children live with fairness they learn justice

If children live with security, they learn to have faith

If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves

If children live with acceptance and friendship

they learn to find love in the world.

All Saints is a special school and I hope the children, staff, parents and governors enjoy a secure and happy future.

All Saints School News 2008

The New Year will be well behind us by the time this goes to press, but 2008 will undoubtedly be a busy time for the school.

The improvements to the Early Years playground are now completed with a fantastic canopy for outside play opportunities having been erected. The whole structure is controlled by an anemometer which closes the canopy down should the weather become too windy. I have always believed that fresh air and the idea of exploring the environment is fundamental to development of the whole child and so I welcome this development of the curriculum for the younger children.

We are also pleased to announce that the school has been awarded the Active Mark for the continuing development of the PE curriculum. This means that we have met certain criteria as outlined by the governments’ healthy schools agenda. Well done to everyone who supports the school, promoting physical exercise as a healthy option.

So we hurtle headlong into the New Year not forgetting that whilst keeping physically fit is important, school also tries to develop all the other aspects of a well- rounded human being, not as easy to detect but equally as important.

All Saints School News

The children from the reception and nursery class recently visited All Saints Church with Mrs Nadin and Mrs Goodwin. The purpose of the visit was to familiarise the children with the idea of baptism. Dominic met them all and talked about the ceremony and they acted out a baptism for one of our new dolls, now christened formally Lucy May. God parents were chosen and their roles explained.

It was therefore very interesting to read in the national press that now only 1 in 6 children are baptised. The Church of England has launched a campaign to make baptisms more popular. Figures show that the popularity of christenings remains high in the countryside, in rural dioceses. Well, I can report that baptism is very much in the minds of our youngest children at All Saints. Of course Dominic explained that adults can also be baptised at any time in their lives but that begged the question of how he would be able to lift them up to the font!
